Ask a Tech: Do I Really Need Norton Utilities?

by on August 3rd, 2006

This question comes to us from Tris Hussey from Larix Consulting.

Do I really need Norton Utilities?

As a matter of fact, Tris, you do not. In fact, I’d recommend removing it completely from your system. There are a number of Anti-virus solutions from companies like Panda and others and many of the “features” of Norton’s Utilities are already included in Windows. I actually wrote about this earlier, but the information is still relevant today.

Good luck!

Yeah I that’s what I thought. One note of warning. I did have trouble removing Norton anti-virus from my old machine … it wrecked the TCP/IP stack and I had to reinstall it.

Now on a related note … what do you recommend for a (free) registry checker/cleaner?
