Computer Hangs on Shutdown
This is a weird one I have no answer to (mostly because I ran out of time and I’m likely going to reimage the machine next week anyway).
A user downloaded the latest client VPN piece to upgrade his VPN access. The process removes the old version, reboots, and then loads the new version. But upon removal of the old version, the laptop hung on shutdown. The only way the system could be restarted was with a cold restart. Unfortunately, a cold restart does not cleanly sort things for the install of the new VPN client and, subsequently fails with error.
I discovered, however, that the machine seems to not restart (i.e. it gets hung) on shutdown after the dialog box disappears from the screen but it only does this when shutting down from a profile (doesn’t matter which one). If the user were to logoff first (back to the login screen), restarting would take place as expected.
Anyone see this behavior before?

Try running the Windows fix utility with Norton System Works off of the CD. Do not load the program on the system. Repair all when done. If you are running Office XP with out the latest updates there may be some things that will not fix.
