lewis blackThis reminds me of a true story I heard from a fellow ‘tech.’ He told me how he instructed a client by phone: ‘just put the board in a free slot in your computer and reboot.’ The client did so and told him that the new board still didn’t work properly. So, my fellow tech did an on-site visit to find out what was wrong and found the computer board permanently mangled into the floppy drive of said computer.

ry to stay safe online with these safety tips:

1. have a good firewall on your computer and keep it updated. Keep windows updated.
2. Add a hardware firewall too: most routers have firewalls.
3. install an antivirus/antispyware windows defender 2
4. don’t buy from unknown sites, check the url when you visit AND when you make the purchase.
5. don’t respond to unsolicited email for your passwords, credit card, personal address.word: spyware
6. use antiphishing tools: most good browsers include antiphishing automatically.
7. don’t trust strangers with your personal information
8. use secure payment when you pay online: Google’s checkout service is secure and enhances security by streamlining your shopping system.
9. report criminals, report phishing.comments please Lately, there’s so much spam in my email box, I just flush it.
10. Use separate email boxes for separate accounts. Tip: this helps me identify spam immediately. For example, if I don’t use an email account for eBay, that eBay email in that box is definitely phishing. Tip: Find out who gives away your email address with Gmail trick

If you find yourself a victim of identity theft or phishingsharks report it.

Many shoppers are shopping online at work; I hope your company’s tech support is good.

If most people aren’t using basic security, we just haven’t explained in clear language WHY they should. In truth, it’s too difficult for many people to secure their computers.

Not only that, they’re creating botnets, cute pc zombiesarmies of compromised computers which obey their instructions. They want your information. They ARE looking for it and if they get it, they will drain your bank account, while you are saddled with bad credit ratings for the rest of your life.

goofy joke: the most impenetrable firewall: disconnect from the internet, turn off the computer and unplug it. This is a foolproof firewall technique which unfortunately won’t function when you turn the computer back on. My husband uses this tip 100% of the time.
